We Make The Path By Walking

This series from Irish photographer Paul Gaffney is the product of over 3,500km (nearly 2,200 miles) of walking through Spain, Portugal, and France over the course of several months.

After walking the Camino de Santiago through northern Spain in 2009, he decided to embark on another walking journey to create this collection, inspired in part by his interest in Buddhist meditation.

According to his personal website, his aim was to “explore the idea of long-distance walking as a form of meditation and personal transformation.” The result is a body of work in which the landscapes he photographs mirror the subtle and sometimes strange internal transformations that one undergoes during such a prolonged physical and psychological journey.  And, as if that weren’t enough, the photos are gorgeous as well.
